CUTE!
Last night in church, Mac decided to stay in worship with us rather than going to nursery after the children's sermon. During the last hymn, he stood on the pew between Brad and me, holding my pocket Bible (his pretend hymnal, scaled to 3 year old size). As the congregation heartily sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", I noticed that Mac was heartily singing...something else. Every time there was a pause in the hymn, his voice carried on, to a different tune. The more closely I listened, I realized he was loudly singing the theme song to "Bob the Builder" with all his might (and quite seriously!).
After the service was over, I asked him--"Mac, were you singing 'Bob the Builder' in church?"
"Yup."
"Why were you singing Bob the Builder?"
"Because I didn't know the words to the song you were singing...stop laughing at me mom!"
{I had to turn away--because I was laughing so hard, because it was so cute, because he was perfectly serious and because he thought it was perfectly normal to sing "Bob the Builder" as a hymn. And actually it was--I know the Lord heard him singing his praises! Oh my, that child is precious.}

How does my famously hot hometown celebrate back to back baseball national champs?
{I wish the pics captured the gamecock flag above the statehouse!}
With a famously hot parade down main street at high noon on the first day of July!
With "tens of thousands" (according to local news, the official estimates have not yet been released--but last year 40,000 showed up!) in attendance! We took the kids of course.
There were really so many random people in this parade. Random law enforcement, lots (and lots and lots) of beauty queens, people who had garnet cars.
This boat had a gator and a tiger tied to the back (you can't see the tiger in this pic). I overheard many Clemson cracks!
This guy is an elder at our church! He saw us and waved.
Who are these people?
Or this guy?
When this guy went by, I was flabbergasted! Seriously!?!? Are they letting you in the parade if you have a garnet car/truck/van??
The kids seemed entertained.
My heart about melted when Mac put his arm around Arden.
They waved at all the beauty queens.
A real Gamecock!!
Cocky!
Finally! Coach Ray Tanner! Followed by the team! The moment we've all been waiting (and sweating!) for!
Yeehaw! Go Gamecocks!!!!
People were going nuts at this point. It was a little overwhelming.
More of the team!
We headed home right after the team passed. It was blazing hot and we couldn't stand another minute. There was a ceremony when they reached the statehouse, but we skipped that part!
Time for a homemade popsicle to cool down!
If all this fanfare happens after winning the national championship in baseball...I think the earth might shift on its axis if we won the national championship in football! I know it's not likely any time soon...but then, a girl can dream, right?
GO GAMECOCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

The past two weeks
A few pics from the past few weeks:
Bounty from the garden after two weeks away!
Sweet friends!
Messy Daddy!
The lake!
Swings! (But Arden calls them slides!)
Snowcones! (Eaten with a spoon--learned my lesson!)
Good, good times at the happiest place on earth!
Man! I love youth ministry!

Columbia: Famously Hot
I always forget...
how hot it gets! Last week was a scorcher. On our 8th anniversary it was 101 degrees! In May! Crazy.
Time to bust out the kiddie pool.
The garden (behind the pool in the photo above) is doing well. We've enjoyed a handful of cherry tomatoes, 2 cucumbers, a few strawberries, and lots of fresh herbs already. We're watching the peppers grow and our Early Girl and Better Boy Tomatoes ripen...soon they'll all be ready! (Yes, our tomato plants are gigantic. They were taller than me by the first week in May. We credit this.)
So in other random news, my flickr account suddenly has newborn pictures of Mac in my recent photostream. I think Brad was deleting stuff off his jump drive and wanted to be sure it the photos were saved. Check this--Mac's first day on earth:
What a sweet ball of baby that is! Can you believe he's almost four years old???
Here's another one...just born! Ah sweetness!
In other news, our little ragamuffin sneaked out and got into a bar fight. Here's her mugshot:
Obviously--not true! She actually was bitten by a mosquito near her eye, which caused her eye to nearly swell shut. (We had to visit the doctor for this one!) I kept her inside for several days after, then, on our first venture back outdoors she had ANOTHER mosquito land and bite her about a quarter of an inch from the first bite. Atta girl.
{I do use bug spray, but not on their faces!}
"Don't mess with me, ya hear?"
My two chickens are hilarious. They are best friends or worst enemies at all times. I have no idea what they were doing here, but they thought it was hysterical:
We went to the beach a little while ago. So fun, but I caught the plague so I spent the first half of the week in misery. Antibiotics are a good thing. I'll finish up with some beach pics...
Mac called this, "water game fire game". He'd fill a bucket then throw it to "put out the fire":

And now I'm just flat-out annoyed with blogger because it won't publish the rest of my post. So, I'll post more beach pics later. Of course, I said that last summer and never did. So we'll see. Goodnight blog-world!
